DIY: Denim Shorts (Cut Offs)

Hello everybody!

I'll be trying to post up DIYs every week or so because I'm getting really poor these few days.

Today's DIY will be.....

Turning your old long jeans to new shorts!
This is probably a really really popular DIY and I was thinking twice about posting this up. But since I was already intending to make a pair of shorts for myself, why not just document it down and upload it for anyone who might be looking for a handy dandy tutorial!

I don't have a light pair of denim shorts, and when my aunt came over with her bag of clothes for sorting/donating, I came across this pair of light wash denim and thought that it might look good as a pair of high waist shorts!

I've been wearing shorts to school almost every order because:

1. The weather is blazing hot!
2. I have to carry really alot large, heavy and bulky items. I can't afford to trip and fall in a skirt.
3. Most of the time, I climb stairs, therefore shorts are much more comfortable.

But of course, I will be incorporating more jeans/leggings/ maxi skirts into my outfits! So do look forward to that because I for course, am looking forward to see myself in skirts as well. Haha. Okay, back to this DIY. It's a really simple and basic DIY.

Step 1: With a pencil, mark the desired length of your shorts when  you're wearing them.
It's crucial that you wear the jeans and mark the length at the same time, because if you were to just snip it off without wearing it beforehand, chances are the length is gonna look a lil off, well at least for me.

Step 2: Fold the jeans about 1" - 2" AFTER your pencil mark and CUT IT OFFFFF OH YEAH!
This is to have allowance, if for instance, you're intending to fray/fringe/cuff/stud your shorts. I will be cuffing my shorts when I wear it. Or maybe dye it and slice it or something *hint hint* ;)

Step 3: There you go! 1 leg down and another to go :) Just fold the  jeans into half, like how you'd do normally . Even everything out and slice the other leg off!
For my previous black cut offs, I didn't fold the jeans and then cut it - resulting in a difference in the length of the shorts. Haha. But it wasn't too bad since I frayed and cuffed it eventually. But hey, you learn from mistakes.

Step 4: Unfold your jeans (seriously, this step is redundant) and TA-DAH!
Okay, wear your new denim shorts however you want it! You can cuff it, stud it, fray it, fringe it or opt for a clean classic look of just hemming the ends. No biggie, really. :)

Breakdown of Total Cost:

Old Long Jeans x 1 = $0.00 (Secondhand)
Scissors x 1 = $1.90
Time x 15mins = $0.00

Total Cost: $1.90 (which is probably not even justifiable since most of you would have a pair of scissors at home! Hence, it will be $0.00

Till then guys,
Rock your shorts.

OOTD: We're all timidly wild.

What I wore to school today :)
  • Top:
    • Bow with Leopard Prints Chiffon Blouse, from some online blogshop that was having a clearance sale. hehe.
    • Random Black Cardigan - Tag shows 'Subway'
  • Bottoms: Cotton On Denim - Semi Waisted Shorts.
  • Accessories: Dorothy Perkins Brown Vintage Belt.
  • Shoes: Not pictured, but it's the same pair in the last OOTD. :)
The thing about this top - is that my Mom found it ugly initially, which kinda swayed my thoughts to 'yeah, this indeed looks pretty horrible. I just wasted moolahs on this piece.' So it kinda stayed in my wardrobe for about a year or so *gasps*

But now, it doesn't seem too bad right? I absolutely love the collar and I hope the tiredness on my face doesn't remove the awesomeness of the collar which looks like a bib in the pictures above. Haha.

Till then! Gotta do up projects right now =S

Matchy Matchy

Since I'm blonde now.... There's only 1 problem.... my BLACK eyebrows... :/

Eye brow tint to the rescue!!!!!

(How's my impersonation???? ^.^) sooo, I bought it in watsons its some facial hair dye by sally hanson! AND it's real cheap! only $9.90 omgggggg

It's really easy to use... just mix the 2 solution given....

and apply it to your eyebrow... wait for 5-10 minutes.... (do check the hair every mintue or so to look out for the shade desired)

And TA_DA!!!!! Tinted eyebrow... the colour is not very obvious here due to my lousy camera :( My eyebrow colour is really light now (as i left it on for quite some time) and I love it! :D promise to change my camera soon hehehe :)

This tint is not bad! I dont feel itch or pain during the application nor anything much after that... I think it's quite user friendly also, pretty much idiot-proof :) so girls and boys! GO AHEAD :D

XOXO
Cynthia

OOTD?

AND A SWARM OF GIRLS were crowding ard him to stall for some time!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! it was quite a sight haha! My group mates managed to get the proj into the box while the girls were at it hehe...

OOTD: Keeping it safe.

What I wore out today (and then school):

And yes, my room is in a mess because I was in the midst of packing up after a long project! It's much neater now :)

  • Top: Striped Sweater from Song & Song
  • Bottoms: Paperbag Shorts in Camel from an online blogshop
  • Shoes: Mondo
  • Accessories: Red & Gold Cuff - Gift

Nails: Unimportant things like exams.

Hello! I got distracted halfway and decided to paint my nails Minted, by Revlon and added a coat of Silver Glitter polish over 2 nails. This glitter-on-some-nails thing has been trending for quite awhile. So, why not jump on the bandwagon and hope for some luck for my exams tomorrow?

Minted 85
It's a little bit warmer IRL. Sigh, the limitations of technology. Hahaha.

3 posts in 3 days! =) I love breaks!

Vintage Slip Ons

I was clearing my shoe area because it was getting to be much of a small mess and my Mom wasn't too happy about the dust, mess and neglected shoes. In anycase, I chanced upon some cool vintage-looking kitten heels and slip ons that my Mom bought eons ago. In fact, I think the beaded slip ons were a gift from my Grandma. :)

First one!
Kitten Heels! They're quite in-season right now. Plus, they do good to my weird feet that won't balance in heels! :)
 Second one!
Slightly chunkier heels, albeit still pretty short. But I LOVE the beadworks over here. So intricate. I asked my Mom about the handiwork and she says that it's all handmade. Very very impressive.
Would love to incorporate these babies into my school outfits - if it wasn't for the fact that I have to lug (heavy) stuff around :(

Okay, till then! It's back to cleaning for me :)

New series!

Because we have been so uninspired to blog, we've decided to include our Outfits Of The Day (OOTD)! Looking at how we, ahem, wear clothes everyday, we thought that it might be a good idea to document outfits that we feel, looks presentable, nice (for the lack of better word), decent, interesting or theme-like. As we both are students, we're pretty modest in dressing up as well.

As compared to beauty-related products, this will be easier to keep up because fashion is recyclable, but not for the beauty products! Also, we don't exactly wear a tonne of different make up to school and we probably stick with one look (or sometimes - no look) all the time.

And now that somebody has blonde hair, she is can officially act dumb without getting the stares from me. Hahaha.

Oh and for the Finished-Products-In-A-Month series, I have not been updating it........... because I haven't been completing stuff, like WTH right?! But I do have some completed stuff for September though! :) So stay tuned, whoever is around!

And one last thing, pardon the webcam quality of the pictures first. I'm just a little too lazy to grab the tripod and snap narcissistic shots of myself at the moment.

Summary:
- Finished-Products-In-A-Month
- Outfits Of The Day (OOTD)

Till then,

Thinking of going blonde????

Thinking of it...

should I??? Because I've wanted to dye blonde since I was younger as I really like light coloured hair.... It looks super fun and happening....

but... Its so loud... will I be able to pull it off? Will I be judged by everyone? hais...

but seriously... I dont give a shit... hahahahaha! SO I WENT BLONDE!

hahahahaha

From the black haired girl next door...

TO FAILED BLONDE DONE BY D.A Hairdressing at pomo...
To awesome kick ass blondeeeeeee done at great world city...

to super cute blonde with bangs and very bery good treatment at artistic touch located somewhere at serangoon....

Good job hair... you have managed to survive god knows how many bleaches... :)

So, back to the main topic, me going blonde. I just wanted to dye it, hmm... it's something like a craving for a certain food and you will not rest till you get it. Well, for me it's a craving for going blonde :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it... :) Of course, being blonde, many will crack blonde jokes on you. Also, many judge you for doing it. For me, it's kinda like a lesson for not letting others affect you. It's MY life anyway. Well, at least I have the balls to do it. hahahaha! I rather do it and regret it later than to regret not doing it in future. I will have to say bye bye to student life in 1.5 years time, so yes, if I wanna do anything crazeee (like going blonde), I should do NOW as I will not get the chance to do it in future... do I make sense? I don't know :/ so fucking tired from my school work gahhhh!

p.s I GOT BLONDE SHAMPOO. HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!!!!
