DIY: Saving Dried Gel-liners

HOW TO SAVE YOUR DRIED-UP GEL LINER.

Hello all!

Recently, (as stated in the nude pink lippy post), my indelible gel liner from MADminerals dried up because the bottle wasn't tightly capped for a few weeks. I really love the colour and couldn't bear to throw it away. Moreover, US$8.99 for that mini bottle isn't that cheap, despite the fact that it's staying power and vibrant colour is fan-tast-tic! Nonetheless, it's probably my Holy Grail product for Gel-liners =)

Oh , as I was saying, it dried up really bad, to the extent that when I shook the bottle, the hardened contents could be heard knocking around. I tried googling, without much help from it anyway. It was until I saw michellephan's youtube video on how to maximise the usage of your lipgloss and I thought, maybe we could do the same for dried gel-liners!

Basically, all you need is:

  1. your dying to be saved GEL eyeliner
  2. A pot of boiling water.

Just place your gel eyeliner in a cup of boiling water and WAIT for about 10min! That's all you gotta do =) Simple eh! You might not get the original consistency of the eyeliner when it was first purchased initially. But after a couple of 'sauna' sessions, your gel liner will loosen up and start to feel softer and smoother =)

note:
- please cap the gel liner tightly as you wouldn't want the water to enter your product.
- do allow a few minutes before placing the gel liner into the boiling water. You wouldn't want to glass to crack or the plastic cover to melt.

I'll try to get the pics up ASAP. Blogger's being a bitch today.

love,
netteeeee

DIY: Nude Pink (Matte) Lippy

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN NUDE LIPSTICK.

Hello all!

Nude has been one of the main trends this year and to get the right shade of a Nude lippy is really hard. It's doubly hard if you're on a low budget ( LIKE ME ). There are many DIY nude lips video on youtube, mainly using concealer and vaseline or such. But sometimes, it's too nude for people with a tinge of colour on their skin, especially after getting a tan.

There are many youtube videos on how to make your own nude lipstick, which is usually concealer + vaseline. I tried that before, but I looked way too pale with the 'erased lips' look. Plus, the vaseline adds shine to the lip color, which isn't really my kinda thing. Or maybe, I done it wrong by adding too much vaseline. Oh well.

In anycase, while doing up some spring cleaning in my make up case, I found this shade of lipstick I bought about 8 months ago at a local drugstore, but never used for more than thrice. The colour was a tad too pinky for my own liking -
pink makes me look really kiddy, and it doesn't really go well with my normal make-up face. So i tried to apply whatever i learnt in youtube videos in real life and chanced upon this result of a nude pinkish lip colour! PLUS, ITS MATTE ;) I love matte. It's love. =D

What you need:

1) A Lipstick of any shade/formula. Preferably with pink tones.
I'm using Silky Girl Moisture Shine in Simply Nude.

2) Powder Foundation to lighten the lip colour.
I'm using Everyday Minerals - Fair Medium in Semi matte. This is sample-sized. Got the wrong shade off the website. Depressing :(

3) Aluminium Foil for easy clearance and a Plastic Spoon for mixing

4) A sanitized container to put your lippy!

Only 4 Items and a couple of minutes to get your shade of nude lippy!

Step #1
- Take a decent amount of your lipstick and mash it into the container. I took about 2cm since I was just trying out.

Step #2
- Using the back of the plastic spoon as the scooper, put in about 4 scoops of the foundation. The more you put, the lighter/pale-er it gets. Oh, it gets thicker too. Mix to your desired shade. I used a lip brush as my mixer.

Step #3
- Using the lip brush, scoop everything(as much as you can) on to the spoon, and then put it back in the container. This is just my OCD side. Couldn't stand it when the product was all over the container.

AND TADA! YOU GOT IT!! Your very own shade of Nude Lippy.

It probably looks too dark/pink for a Nude Lippy, but the foundation makes the entire lipstick lighter and more opaque. Oh, the foundation also makes it MATTE, which is a good thing for me as I'm not exactly a fan of shimmers, for now. Nonetheless, just add the foundation till you get the desired shade =)

note:
If you want it darker - Add dark brown eyeshadow.
If you want it pinkier - Add more lippy.

darker and more pink, there's a difference. :)

SWATCHES!

Tips:
1) if you find it too 'watery', place the product in the refrigerator before use. It will solidify into a lipstick as shown. But you have to place it back in the refrigerator after use due to the climate temperature.

I find that this colour suits me better, since I'm pretty tanned. It could also seen as a MLBB (My Lips But Better) color. =)

Hope you find this useful, and Enjoy.

Apologies and a new section? ! :)

Hello All! (and cynthia too :)

I know we haven't been updating and blabla as we have really busy with school and social life, but yeah, I guess I would come by once in every while to update about certain stuff. Promise you guys that we will be updating more often around the end of November 2009. Oh, and another reason for not updating is that, we haven't really purchased anything that's worth all the hyped (positives and negatives) about. =/ I know. Plus, poverty sucks, I could kill a cow. Sigh.

Nonetheless, there will be a new section for the "D.I.Ys.", which would be called... err.. D.I.Ys. Due to poverty-stricken me, I guess I can't have the buy-whatever-i-feel-like mindset for this period of time. But Cynthia, on the other hand, has this mindset, so look out for her posts! :)

Infact, Im already editing the photos for the 1st post on D.I.Ys! Awesome or what?

Okayz peepz. See you soon I hope!

Love,
Nette.
